A curious endeavor makes for some intriguing finds

I remember being a curious kid from the get-go. "Who?" and "Why?" are some of the questions I continue to ask most days, especially now that I am a working journalist.

The now defunct Glasgow Daily Times published in its paper for the longest time along the bottom portion of the gazette a series called "Howdy Neighbor," and I loved it.

I credit my initial career interests in medicine to be rooted in a love for humans. I find people interesting, really. I find people's experiences and passions fascinating. I find their idiosyncrasies neat. That fact is even more convenient since I decided to pursue a career as a reporter.

My endeavor to learn more about people and their personal lives is hardly met when reporting on topics like government, investigations and other hard news stories. It's possible but not exactly the kind of get-to-know-you people are receptive toward!

With the help of the community, I'd like to start writing periodically about people. Just local people and their experiences. I think it is integral to a community's culture and overarching story to write about those who make places what they are.

Too often the same people are in the spotlight, leaving behind a lot of the savor of our local communities. I hope to change that.

I think we can tell a lot about people from their outward behavior, vernacular and how they conduct business. But there is more to learn about someone when you consider their past and how they have adapted to challenges presented to them. We all have quirks.

Be on the lookout for these stories. I don't know how regular they'll be since I am doing them in addition to my other hobbies and work. And you never know when you may be called upon to share your story.
